Lots of people think that being a scab is painful because of the marks and because of the money. Too much of one, not enough of the other. And yeah, I guess that’s true enough. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t. But you get used to those stings.

What you don’t get used to – what I haven’t gotten used to – is the entitlement. The looks on people’s faces when they pretend not to hear you. Not to see you. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”
How someone can wake up in the morning, take a bath in Slick, and then walk around like Washington and his hatchet is something that won’t ever make sense to me.
I found this band recently – they dress up in costumes and play characters for their music. Finding creative ways to cover yourself feels more genuine than using Slick. Maybe I’ll meet these guys some day.
